Maligne Canyon and Maligne Lake in Jasper!!

We took a nice drive to see Maligne Canyon and Maligne Lake. There are warnings signs for Caribou all along the road but we never saw one:((. The Maligne Canyon is one of the most spectacular gorges in the Canadian Rockies. The walls plunge to depths of over 165ft and really gives you some very cool views. You start walking on this trail and then you keep going as don't want to miss something. It really is a very nice hike and we meet people from Germany, Switzerland and from Mississippi. The drive to Maligne Lake was a nice leisurely drive where we saw some mountain goats right along the highway. Maligne Lake is the second largest glacier-fed lake in the world, stretching 14 miles. You can take a boat cruise that will take you to the world-famous Spirit Island. Most of the lakes we have seen are surrounded by mountains giving you a spectacular view. On the way back to Jasper we saw the mountain goats again and then a bear. It was brown in color and really very beautiful. We did find out from a local that it is still classified as a black bear even though it is brown in color.

We like the Jasper Whistlers campground a lot but it is in need of road repair and just some overall clean up. The town of Jasper is nice but the price of groceries and other items are rather expensive. If you can, pick up all your food items before coming here. We did find a laundry mat that charges $3 for an hour of internet as there are no free hookups like McDonalds in Jasper. This is why we have not been posting on the blog for a few days.
