Leaving Tok for Haines Junction but ending up in Whitehorse
Well time to leave Tok and go to the Yukon. We headed out with plans to go to Haines Junction which was about 300 miles away but... The road to Haines Junction has to be the worse part of the Alaskan Highway. You can not imagine how bad the frost heaves are and if you fail to go real slow your camper is not going to make it. They keep trying to fix it but it is a money pit and will never be repaired. The weather will never cooperate:) I had always gotten fuel when I was down to half a tank but after crossing the border and getting to Beaver Creek, I thought I would keep going and get fuel down the road, wrong. There is no fuel until Burwash Landing and then it is 1.59 a liter, comes out to close to $6 a gallon:(( We coasted in on fumes and fueled up, Ouch!! Oh well don't change your plan that has worked for months, Get fuel when down to a half a tank. We had lunch and looked around Burwash Landing Resort and got back on the road towards Haines Junction. Well we made it to Haines Junction almost 300 miles and decided that we should go onto Whitehorse. We were going to stop there anyway because our camera stopped working and a Walmart would give us a selection of reasonable cameras. So I broke another one of my rules, never driving more than 300 miles in 1 day. going to Whitehorse was another 100 miles. We made it by 7 as we had lost an hour because of a time zone. It was a long day but glad we made it and decided to spend 4 nights and relax and go to Skagway. At least there was some beautiful scenery.
