Going to Tok!!

We went over to Tok on Friday, July 29, 2011. It was an uneventful drive of 100 miles and got us to the Sourdough Campground early. The campground is known for the nightly sourdough pancake toss. You try to throw the pancake from about 15 feet into a 5 gallon bucket. If you do, you win a sourdough pancake breakfast the next morning. Suzanne and I have both won a free breakfast, which was very good and even better when it's free. They have nightly entertainment with singing by a man who does all the Johnny Cash hits and you can even sing if you want by doing karaoke. We have meet a lot of nice people from all over the world at the campground. It is fun to sit around and trade stories especially about the Alaskan animals.

The campground is nice but has not been full at all and we are seeing that in all the campgrounds. Tourism is down and most people are blaming it on the economy. People who had been here before, told us stories of how the roads were packed with campers. We have not seen that at all!

Tok doesn't have much to offer but a few restaurants and several gift shops. So we have been relaxing and getting ready to leave Alaska. We feel like we have accomplished just about everything while in Alaska that we wanted to. We have taken our time and stayed longer in places where we probably shouldn't have but we have not been rushed. It leaves the door open to return and do the things we missed. After being here you get the feel of the land and want to come back and visit.
