Driving the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway

They talked about the weather turning bad ( rain and snow in the higher elevations) on Sunday so we decided to travel the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway today 5/7/2011. The scenic byway is 37 miles one way and is a fabulous drive. The roads are steep in spots and the higher elevations of almost 10,000 feet have plenty of snow. The people we have talked to have said this has been a long winter with lots and lots of snow. We stopped at the Bear Lake Overlook and the view of the lake was breath taking. The colors of the lake are turquoise to sky blue caused by the limestone particles suspended in the lake. Bear Lake is 20 miles long by 8 miles wide and has a depth of 208 feet. Bear Lake is located in 2 states, Utah and Idaho. On the ride, we stopped and watched several snowmobiles being unloaded, they sure looked like fun. There were lots of people out hiking, biking, motorcycle riding and even rock climbing. We saw one of the finest Mormon Temples in the city of Logan. There were lots of people around the Temple, as they were having numerous weddings. The Temple is so large and has so many rooms they can have several going on at the same time. The grounds were manicured to perfection and the tulips are beautiful. Logan is also home of Utah State University, maybe that was the reason for the terrible traffic. For the motorcycle riders following the blog, mark the Scenic Highway as another ride to do.
